I want to be like Jo!

“Jo is strong and well built. You can’t see health, I know, but if you could, I’d imagine it looks a lot like Jo, like someone who could carry things, walk far, hold her own if attacked by a bear.”

The House of Lost Secrets by Anstey Harri

I came across that nugget this week in one of the books I was reading and it just jumped off the page for me. I want to be like Jo!

When I started really getting into my fitness journey I came up with this arbitrary goal of wearing a size 4. I had never worn a 4, nor could I tell you why I picked the number 4. I guess it just seemed like a good “small” number.

At one point, I had finally reached the goal and I remember thinking now what? Nothing magical happened. I wasn’t suddenly over my body issues. I wasn’t any more secure in my body then I was at an 8 or 12 or 18. I was still me, just a different size me.

Since that time I have gone on to participate in some incredibly physically challenging events, lifted more then the average human and done things with my body I didn’t even know I was capable of. Each of those events or moments where life changing. They showed me what I was capable of, way more then a size 4 ever could.

I am not looking to invite a bear in my home but I feel like I could hold my own if one visited😉.

If a number on the scale or size of clothing has always been your measuring stick I would encourage you to find other ways to guide your assessment of your health. You will likely find a lot more fulfillment and enjoyment.

Onward and upward my friends…
