The Gift of Injury

Lessons from pain!

“An injury is not just a process of recovery, it’s a process of discovery".”

Conor McGregor

About 8 years ago, I tore my hamstring. It was an injury I would not wish even on my worst enemy. I went from the top of the leaderboard in Crossfit to struggling to stand up from a chair. It was beyond pain and a huge hit to my overall mental well-being. I spent a good couple of weeks in a pity party where I was the only guest.

After those initial couple of weeks, I knew if I wanted to really recover from this I was going to have to address what brought about the injury in the first place, and fix those issues while I rebuilt the muscle.

This was a very slow and painful process but I am so thankful I went through it. I learned an incredible amount about my personal injury but more importantly, it gave me a platform to be able to work with others through their own injuries.

Injuries happen even to those who seem to be doing all the right things. Sometimes there is a weakness in the body that you may not be aware of. Sometimes we are pushing ourselves too hard and not giving ourselves enough time to recover. Sometimes weird stuff just happens that is completely out of our control. The worst thing you can do is toss in the towel and stay in that pity party. The best thing you can do is start learning how to safely and effectively recover and become strong through the process.

If you have suffered an injury and need help with the next step, reach out to me. There is a gift in the injury; we just have to find it!
