Struggling...
Having a hard time keeping weight off?
“Strength is not a data point; it’s not a number. It’s an attitude.”
Pavel Tsatsouline
When I started my fitness journey I was a cardio junkie. I could and would do hours of cardio a week. When I finally hired my first trainer, I learned the importance of strength training. There are many reasons, not all of which I will go over today, you should be lifting weights and lifting them frequently.
One of the biggest and simplest reasons is muscle burns more than fat. This the more muscle mass you carry the more calories you are burning on an ongoing basis. If you look at people who have a higher percentage of lean muscle mass they are consuming way more calories than the average human because they can and need, to maintain their muscle mass.
What does this mean for the average joe like you and I? If you are struggling with maintaining or losing weight maybe you need to add more weight training to your routine.
I don’t want to minimize the importance of cardiovascular conditioning. I still walk dozens of miles a week and you can often find me getting a quick 20 minutes on the elliptical or bike. Conditioning your heart is vitally important, especially as we age but it should be a part of a full equation that includes strength training.
The good news is you don’t have to lift like you are Arnold. You just need consistency and a plan of action. If you need help with either of those reach out to me! Weight training is not hard or scary! You just need to build a good foundation and go from there!
