Starting small..
“It is better to do something than to do nothing while waiting to do everything.”
~Winston Churchill
I came across this quote in a book I was reading recently and it got me thinking. I went a lot of years waiting to start something when I felt like all the conditions were right or I had the appropriate time and space for said thing.
Fast forward to the last couple of years and I am grateful to have figured out how to tackle some rather large projects and accomplish some major things. Want to know what the secret is???
Just start!
I know, I know, seems easy right? But really it is that easy. I have taken on a few very laboriously large certifications in the last couple of years and the only way I did that was just starting with finding 15-30mins I could devote to the goal. That time builds up. Suddenly, I would look up and I finished the thing I started.
Said any of these things?
I want to incorporate mobility/stretching/working out in my life but I can’t find the time.
I want to start that class I have always wanted to take but I just can’t find the time.
I want to run a marathon but can’t run a mile so why start.
I have always wanted to read that book but it’s just so long.
Try instead…
I will find 2-3 days a week where I can move for 15-20mins.
I will stop watching on episode a week of that show and start devoting that time to taking a class.
I will start with walking around my block.
I will read just 10 pages a week.
These are seemingly small actions towards possibly big goals but enough of those baby steps forward and you will find yourself much further along then had you done absolutely nothing.
I would love everyone I know to spend some quality time on exercise every week but I also know there are a lot of things competing for your time. But instead of doing absolutely nothing, try 5 minutes or 5 pages or 5 steps. It seems small until it doesn’t.
If you need help creating some baby steps towards a goal please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Onward and upward my friends!
