Hard work...

Doing the hard stuff..

“Hard work is intentionally leaving your comfort zone with purpose. That’s how you grow.”

~Alan Stein Jr. Raise Your Game

I have been really lucky to have ran a few full marathons, a dozen half’s and even more 5k’s and 10k’s. Running was a big part of my life during my 20’s and early 30’s. All of that stopped back in 2016 when I tore my hamstring. That injury sidelined me for a while…physically and mentally. There was a time when I never thought I would be able to run again.

Since that time I have been able to return to some light jogging for very short distances. A far cry from 10 years ago.

I decided this year was going to be a year of bold moves so I signed up for a Hyrox event that requires some longer running intervals. To prepare for this I have been running more and what humbling experience it has been. I am not even close to being able to run the distances that I used to, and I am much slower.

Last Thursday I went for an internal run and there was a very small part of me for a very short moment that was a bit discouraged at what I couldn’t do but a much larger part of me got excited and proud of what I could do and what I was attempting to do.

As I get older I understand wanting to look back at what you used to be able to do and let it get you down but I want to challenge you to think about what you still can do. The body changes over different seasons of life and that is ok. There is still so much that you can accomplish when you dedicate your physical and mental energy towards something.

If you are in a new season of your life and you are trying to find out the next step, reach out to me. Sometimes having someone from the outside looking in gives us a better perspective.
