Be Kind to Yourself
Something I have always tried to communicate to those I have the privilege of working with is the idea of affording yourself kindness when things don’t go quite the way you planned them in your health and fitness journey.
There will likely be good, healthy seasons where you can stick to your goals and check all the boxes but sometimes life ‘happens’ and in that moment there is no value being added by feeling guilty, shame or frustration because you were unable to do what you thought you should have and could have done.
The last 3 months have been a rollercoaster of emotions as I (and many other Houstonians) have delt with 2 extended power outages, and a hole in my roof.
Initially, I remember thinking it wasn’t the end of the world back in May but as the days started to pile up, the heat rose, and each meal turned into a scavenger hunt, I started to feel frustrated because I was charting off course from my health and fitness goals I had set out for myself.
I have had to remind myself daily, that given the situation, I was doing the best that I could and making the decisions that made sense in that moment with the resources I had available.
As much as we plan, and prepare (and you know that is my specialty) there are situations and circumstances that will be entirely out of our control. When those happen, be kind to yourself and remember that this season will pass. When you come out of the fog, regroup, refocus and keep moving forward.
Your health and fitness journey is just that….a journey. It will encounter some ups & downs but as long as you keep coming back and moving forward you will be successful!
