Are You Being Honest?
As I have plodded along my own personal health and fitness journey, there have been times where I wanted a certain aesthetic or performance goal….or I thought I did.
When I would dig in to what was actually required for that goal I would often realize I was not willing to change certain habits, do the work required or that goal wasn’t actually as important as I originally thought.
Sometimes this was a humbling experience because I had to be honest with myself and realize I was not willing to make the necessary sacrifices to get that “thing.” Other times I realized I couldn’t put my mental and physical health in jeopardy for some arbitrary goal. Ultimately, I had to learn to be honest with what I really wanted and what I was willing to sacrifice for that goal.
I have worked a lot of people over my 20 years in this industry and people have come to me wanting…
A six pack
Lose 25lbs
Run a marathon
Complete a fitness event like a Tough Mudder, ect.
Wear xyz size
When I lay out what will have to happen to accomplish that goal people want to try and figure out an easier path. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes getting what you want (physically, financially, professionally) requires an immense amount of sacrifice, discipline and focus. Sometimes it doesn’t. But either way you have to learn to be honest with what you really want. It will save you tons of guilt, shame, frustration and ultimately doing the things that are actually important to you.
If you have a goal you want to work on and are struggling to decide how to get there lets talk. Lets put a plan in place that reflects an honest evaluation of where you are and what it will take to get you to the finish line.
