Finding what works for you...
“Success isn’t always about greatness; it’s about consistency. Consistent, hard work gains success. Greatness will come.”
~The Rock
I regularly get asked what I think is the best way to stay fit. Most people don’t appreciate my answer but ultimately it boils down to what works best for your body.
I have a few caveats to this. I am a firm believer that weight-bearing exercises are a must, especially as we age. I also believe getting some cardiovascular activity is really important.
For many years I did a lot of running until it just wasn’t a good fit for me any more. I still try to include some short distances but I find long walks or using the rower or elliptical are a much better fit for me. I would rather pluck all my eye lashes out than do, Pilates but I know a lot of people really like it.
The bottom line is finding what works for you!
Here are a few things to ask yourself when you are trying to decide what your next step is...
How much time can I realistically commit to?
Do I have limiting joint or mobility issues I need to take into consideration?
Do I want to do this at home or be a part of a gym?
What are my goals?
The right fitness program is not the one your friend is doing, not the one with the most Instagram likes, and not the hardest, sweatiest thing you can find. It’s the one that fits your goals, schedule, and soul.
