Exploring the Adjacent...

“An injury is not just a process of recovery, it’s process of discovery.”

~Conner McGregor

I have been really lucky over the years to carve out a niche in the health and fitness space to be able to work with clients who are presenting pain and have been unable to figure out how to resolve it. It has allowed me to dive very deep into anatomy and find what really is going on.

Most people (myself include) have had a painful-shoulder, knee, back, elbow, etc- and they have tried everything to resolve that issue except look at the adjacent anatomy.

The body is connected so when a problem is presenting in one area a lot of the time the problem is stemming from a different location. The point of pain is not always the point of the problem. The superficial back line of the body starts at the very bottom of our feet and runs all the way up into our brow. Any point in that posterior surface could be congested or compromised, causing what ever issue you have. This is why some times you can do some feet drills and your shoulders loosen up.

If you are struggling with symptoms in a certain area consider evaluating the adjacent areas.

Back pain-tight hamstrings, tight glutes, thoracic tension from sitting with bad posture for extended periods of time.

Knee pain-tight hamstring, tight glutes, shorted hip flexors from sitting too much, tight psoas, compromised ankles, ankle mobility.

Shoulder pain-thoracic tension, lumber extension, limited ankle mobility causing overcompensation in your gait pattern through your shoulders.

Elbow pain-shortened or strained biceps, thoracic tension, winged scapula from bad posture, rotator issues.

As you can see from just a few of the examples above, sometimes you need to fix another issue before you fix the pain issue. If you fix the pain issue without addressing the other issue, you will repeatedly find your same in the same place over and over again.

If you need some help evaluating adjacent areas let me know. Treating the pain will certainly help in the moment but fixing the bigger picture will leave your body feeling better and moving better!
