Doing things differently...

Are you stuck in your fitness journey? Struggling to get off the last 10lbs or chronically dealing with an injury, stiffness, or pain point?

We have all been there, including myself. I have found that as I have gotten older what worked for me in my twenties didn’t work in my thirties and what worked in my thirties stopped working in my forties.

At each interval I had a small pity party and then very quickly figured out what I had to do differently to bring about the change I wanted.

For years I could jump out on the trail and start running. Along the way I had to add a little bit of stretching. Further along the way I need a little more warming up. Now if I want to include running I need to keep my lower body primed with activation work and tons of mobility on a continuous basis.

I recently went to the movies and was there for close to 2 ½ hours. My hips were not happy at the end! I know now I need to be able to move around a little more and not sit for that long for a movie or really anything.

I have never been one of those people who could eat what ever I wanted or just moderately clean up my diet from time to time but I do recall a day when I could add some more workouts in and it certainly helped. Now not so much. I have to be a little more careful about my eating habits.

My goals are still similar….maintain a healthy weight (optimal muscle/fat ratio), move without pain, feel comfortable in my body, enjoy the foods I eat, and be able to participate in any physical activity I want to in the moment. While not all of those have always been accomplished perfectly over the years I have strived to be close. The method to get to those goals however has changed as the seasons of my life have changed and that is ok!

If you are frustrated or in your own pity party, its ok to sit in that space for a moment but then it’s time to figure out a plan of action to continue to reach your goals with the new chess pieces on the board. It will bring about new challenges but that is ok because everything worth getting to does.

If you find yourself trying to figure out how to approach this new season of your life and don’t know or have the tools you need let me know. Sometimes we just need a new idea to spark the change we want.

Onward and upward my friends….
