Baby Steps..

For many, many, many years I have mapped out my 3, 5 and 10 year goals. Somewhere along the way I was taught and clung to the notion that every go-getter had these all clearly defined goals with a strategic outline on how one was going to achieve them.

Along the way life has happened. I have gotten older. I have experienced loss and heartbreak. I have been in scary financial situations. I have had to hibernate until a hard season of life had passed. I had to learn to focus on the next immediate season of my life, not one far away, and what I could do to make it better than the last.

As a result, goal setting looks a lot different now.

Last Thursday I set some 30, 60, and 90 day goals. I wanted to finish the year strong and these smaller, more immediate goals are more important then where I see myself in 5 years. These goals also align with some larger goals I set for myself for 2024. If I can finish the next 30 days strong, I will likely have a good start on the following 30 and 60 days after that.

If you are struggling with motivation, focus or getting to the next stage with anything I encourage you to break down your goal into something much more immediate and doable. Build some momentum.

If you want to run a 5k and you are not currently walking or running regularly you probably wouldn’t just sign-up for one next weekend. You could however, sign-up for one 3 months from now and decide you were going to complete 1 mile, 2-3 times a week this month and 2 miles the following month and 3 the month of the race.

I believe in the importance of goal setting but sometimes those goals can and should be broken down into smaller more manageable actions steps. What can I do in the next 30 days to move me in the right direction?

If need to some ideas or help setting some smaller goals in pursuit of some larger goals defiantly reach out to me!

Onward and upward my friends…
